Usage Policy for Library Computers

The Library has six iMac computers located in the lobby that serve as our catalog and research computers. Searching the World Wide Web on these computers is permitted when it is part of a research project. In addition there is a seventh iMac on the reference desk which is for teaching students how to use various databases. No games, chat rooms, word processing or e-mail should be done on these computers.

The Media Center contains iMacs and PC's. Word processing and web surfing for educational purposes are allowed on these computers. They are primarily for academic purposes; however, chat rooms and personal e-mail can be done on the computers when they are not needed for academic purposes.

Games may not be played on any of the Library computers. Software applications of any kind, including instant messaging software (e.g., Yahoo, AOL Instant Messenger etc.) may not be downloaded or installed on any Library computer.

Current Clark State students take precedence in using Library computers. Community patrons will be accommodated as computer availability permits. Children must be accompanied by their parents at all times while in the computer areas and the library. Unattended children are not permitted in the library.

Making Copies:
One copy may be printed of a final document. Additional copies should be photocopied. Students may print one copy of materials for class at no cost within reason. Other items (ex., football schedules, song lyrics, etc.) will be charged $0.20 per page. There is a charge of $0.20 per page for non-students and community patrons. Students will be charged at the same rate for multiple copies.

The computer identified as an ADA workstation is reserved for persons with disabilities; if such a person needs this station, another patron may be asked to move.

Documents may not be saved to hard drives. Bring your own disk (they can be purchased at the college bookstore). There may be a "loaner" disk available, but there is no guarantee that a subsequent user will not trash your work. Save your work often. Occasionally a computer can "lock up" when the spelling checker is run, or for other reasons. The Library staff is not responsible for lost work.

Please don't turn the computers off or otherwise shut them down.
