Locating Articles Using Online Databases
To search within a database for journals on a subject:

• Click on Explore OhioLINK Databases > By Subject
• Choose Business
• Click on the title of the database to connect
• Enter your search terms or use the subject categories

You can also Explore OhioLINK Databases by Name. Here are a few options for databases that include business and company information:

  • Business Source Premier
  • Business & Industry
  • LexisNexis Academic
  • Vocational & Career Collection
  • Regional Buisness News
  • Academic Search Premier
  • Newspaper Source
  • Inside Information Plus

To search for a particular journal title – to see if it’s available full-text online:

• Go to: www.ohiolink.edu/resources/ejournals.php
• Or … Click on Electronic Journal Center > E-Journal Finder
• Enter your journal title, then click on the collection that the finder indicates your journal title is in.
• Enter your search terms once you are connected to the database—your journal should be pre-selected (by either the ISSN number or individual journal screen). If not, you will need to reenter the title, but you know that the title is included within this database.

Hints on Searching . . .

Business Source Premier

• Type keywords in the boxes, search by thesaurus, or company profiles.
• Many articles are available in full text—either HTML or PDF formats.
• You can select article(s) to print or email to yourself using the folders.
• Notice that there are many ways to limit your search on the main page.

LexisNexis

• You can choose either News (newspaper information) or Business (news, financial information, or SEC and Edgar filings).
• Choose Quick Info to search for news, a company name, or a legal case from a simple keyword screen. The majority of information in LexisNexis is full text and you can print or email articles.

Finding Company Information on the Web
The company you are interested in probably has a website of its own. Use a search engine, such as Google or Yahoo to search for your company’s name. At the company’s website, there may be product overviews, a company profile, or financial data. For the most complete information about a company, use one of the OhioLINK databases to find financial statements and journal articles.

REMEMBER! Private companies do not have to release financial information to the public since they do not issue stocks. If you choose to research a private company (ex. Cargill or Meijer) remember that it may be more difficult to find data than it would be for a public company.
